NDIS Core, Capital and Capacity Building Supports

The NDIS can be confusing. When it comes to understanding your plan and the associated funding please talk to your ECEI Coordinator or LAC Coordinator. The terms used by the Scheme is specific, and there are certainly quite a lot, which can be somewhat overwhelming. However, to understand a little about the funding avenues and the terms used read this summary.

When creating your plan there are three budgets, core, capital and capacity building. Each budget relates to specific area of support.

Core

A core support help you in your everyday life. This can include help to make a meal or join and attend a social activity, like a club or a sport. There are four categories under Core:

  • Daily activities
  • Social, community and civic participation
  • Consumables
  • Transport

Core support funding is flexible and supports can be across the four categories.

Capital

A capital support is for equipment, home or vehicle modification and specialist accommodation. This might include a ramp at your home or money for a wheelchair. There are two categories under Capital.

  • Assistive Technologies
  • Home Modifications

Capital funding isn’t flexible and must be used for what NDIS allocates it for.

Capacity Building

A capacity building support is to help learn new skills. This can include help to improve speaking or writing, or develop better social skills to help develop better friendships at school or in your community. There are nine capacity building categories.

  • Support Coordination
  • Improved Living Arrangements
  • Increased Social and Community Participation
  • Finding and Keeping a Job
  • Improved Relationships
  • Improved Health and Wellbeing
  • Improved Learning
  • Improved Life Choices
  • Improved Daily Living Skills

Capacity building funding is flexible across the nine categories.

How do we help?

All About Kids provides therapy under NDIS funding. This tends to be but isn’t restricted to

Capacity Building > Improved Daily Living Skills > Early Childhood Intervention Support (under 7 years)

Capacity Building > Improved Daily Living Skills > Therapy Supports (over 7 years)

This does include low cost Assistive Technology (lots of rules around AT). All About Kids is a general allied health clinic for anyone seeking therapy or mental health support. We are very skilled in our areas of professional practice and will always assist you with seeking supports which are not part of our general intervention supports. For example, if you have specific needs associated with medical related eating needs we will work with your medical specialist, and your specialist dietician team while supporting your child’s additional therapy needs.

Working together to provide the best
possible support for your family.
