Women's Health Week at All About Kids: Shining the light back on You

|Parenting & Wellbeing |All About Kids

At All About Kids, we work closely with families navigating the many responsibilities that come with raising and supporting children. What we also see, often quietly, in between the lines, is how many women are carrying a tremendous load.  Whether you're a mother, carer, teacher, therapist, or support worker, your day is often shaped around looking after others. And while that work is deeply valuable, it often comes at the cost of your own wellbeing.

Women’s Health Week is a reminder: your health matters, too.

We’re honoured to share this reflection piece from our Administration team member Caitlynn, a final year student naturopath, who invites us to check in gently with ourselves and explore the 7 Pillars of Health. These are not rules or resolutions. They are starting points for awareness. Quiet doorways back to self. This blog is for any woman who’s been putting herself last. For anyone who's tired and not sure why. For anyone who hasn't felt truly seen in a while.

The 7 Pillars of Health; A foundation for whole-person wellbeing

  1. Nutrition and Digestive Health

Food is not just fuel; it’s communication. What we eat influences our mood, energy, hormones,  immunity and more. But it’s not just what we eat, it’s how we eat. Are you rushing through meals? Ignoring discomfort or bloating? Eating what’s easiest, not what nourishes you? This pillar encourages you to get curious:
    – How does food make you feel?
    – Are you listening to your body’s cues?
    – What does nourishment look like for you right now?

  2. Movement and Physical Activity
Movement isn’t punishment. It’s connection. Whether it’s stretching, walking, dancing, or strength training, regular movement supports physical, mental, and emotional health. The goal isn’t aesthetics,
    it’s vitality.  Ask yourself:
    – Am I moving in a way that feels good to me?
    – What kind of movement do I enjoy, even a little?

  3. Sleep and Rest
Sleep is where repair happens. It’s essential for hormones, memory, immune function, and emotional processing. But many women are wired for productivity and find true rest elusive. Consider:
    – Am I getting deep, restorative sleep?
    – Have I built space for rest into my week, not just sleep, but quiet moments to decompress?

  4. Stress Management and Emotional Health
Stress isn’t just mental—it lives in the body. Long-term stress can affect digestion, energy, immunity, and more. Yet so many women are told to “keep going,” even when they’re burning out. You might ask:
    – Where am I holding stress in my body?
    – What helps me feel grounded or calm, even briefly?
    – When was the last time I talked honestly about how I feel?

  5. Detoxification and Elimination
The body detoxifies naturally every day—through the liver, bowels, skin, kidneys, lungs and lymphatic system. But poor sleep, processed foods, stress and environmental toxins can make those systems sluggish. Instead of restrictive diets or trends, this pillar focuses on gentle support:
    – Am I having regular bowel movements?
    – Am I sweating, hydrating, and moving lymph through my body?
    – Are there signs my body might need help clearing what it no longer needs?

  6. Connection and Purpose
We heal in connection, not in isolation. Disconnection—from others, from meaning, from self—can be as impactful as any physical health concern. Connection isn’t a luxury. It’s a requirement. Reflect on:
    – Do I feel seen and supported by anyone?
    – What gives me a sense of purpose right now, even in small ways?
    – Am I craving more connection than I’ve allowed myself to ask for?

  7. Hydration and Nature
Water is foundational for every cell in your body. But hydration goes beyond water - it’s about flow. The flow of energy, circulation, and time spent in natural environments. Nature helps regulate our
nervous system and restore perspective. Ask yourself:
    – Am I drinking enough water (and absorbing it)?
    – When was the last time I stepped outside and noticed the world around me?

A Final Thought

Women’s Health Week is a powerful opportunity to pause and check in with yourself, not out of guilt, but out of self-respect.

You are allowed to take up space. You are allowed to be tired. You are allowed to want more balance, more care, and more connection. And you don’t need to wait until you’re “falling apart” to begin making small changes.

Whether you explore just one pillar or all seven, may this week be a moment to return to yourself, even gently.
