General developmental assessments focus on a child’s development and skills from a bottom-up perspective. These can be considered a more ‘classic’ Occupational Therapy assessment and report compared to other more funding-focused items. This will typically include a number of developmental areas, including but not limited to sensory processing, self-regulation, gross motor, and fine motor. Areas assessed will be based on information gathered and discussed during the initial interview appointment.
As part of the assessment, several standardised assessments may be used to gain greater insight into the person’s abilities. It may also be relevant for the therapist to observe your child in an outside environment such as school or kindergarten. This will be discussed during the initial interview if necessary.
Results from standardised assessments will be analysed in conjunction with information provided in the initial appointment to inform and identify areas for future intervention. Assessment reports can be adapted to include additional NDIS information if required for funding. Following assessment and during feedback, your Occupational Therapist will collaboratively engage in targeted goal setting to devise an intervention plan if you intend to book in for therapy.

Sensory processing assessments are used to inform of a person’s unique ‘sensory profile’ and patterns within areas of sensation (i.e. touch, taste, movement, sound). Typically, sensory processing assessments are used to assist in diagnosing conditions and to provide tailored recommendations for managing sensory preferences to inform others (i.e. home, school, daycare). Much like a person’s sensory profile, sensory processing assessments at All About Kids are highly individualised and catered directly to the client's needs. This specific report style can be provided to daycare, kindergartens, schools and other services to provide recommendations on managing sensory preferences. In some instances, sensory processing assessments can be tailored for use in NDIS reviews.

Functional Capacity Assessments (FCA) are the bread and butter of NDIS reporting to assist with the application and review of funds. A good quality FCA is always a big influence on a client’s success at presenting an argument for their desired supports. A FCA report is a snapshot of a person’s functioning across every aspect of their life to inform specific formal supports being requested. As a result, FCA reports are lengthy, detailed and highly individualised. Standardised assessments used may vary between differing age groups and presentation/diagnosis (i.e. DAYC questionnaire with 0-5 years, Vineland for 5 years and older).
Due to the variety in a client's presentation and areas of requiring support, the process for information gathering and gaining information for the report may require differing amounts of 1 on 1 interviewing and observations in different environments. Results from both standardised questionnaires required by NDIS are compiled and analysed with information provided from interviewing alongside observations made to provide an accurate representation of a person’s capacity to inform supports requested from NDIS. FCA’s can be used to ensure success when first applying for funds and change of circumstances during plan reviews.

Provisions assessments are handwriting specific and typically used when requesting additional or unique assistance in the classroom or examinations to manage handwriting challenges. These reports are often used when requesting Access Arrangements and Reasonable Adjustments (AARA) formally through school.
Provisions assessments will consist of face-to-face interviews to gain information about handwriting and school challenges, followed by a number of standardised handwriting-specific evaluations. The standardised assessments are vital in ensuring an accurate representation of the person’s skills are presented including comparison to age norms as evidence for supports. The Occupational Therapist assessing will work with you to decide on ways the person can be supported in their handwriting challenges and can further discuss ongoing intervention following assessment to continue to develop skills.
