Support for Kids

Our psychologists and counsellors are mental health practitioners who have completed a minimum of 6 years of study and preparation for working with children. Psychologists, counsellors and social workers take different pathways of study which lead them to varied specialisations and interests. This allows you to choose the best therapist for you and your child.

At All About Kids our mental health practitioners are experienced in the way children think, feel, behave and learn.  They often see children and parents when something is going wrong – for example when your child is anxious or stressed or having difficulties at school – for example when your child is experiencing bullying or is being a bully to others. We also frequently see young children who experience developmental delay. This means they are learning and developing in one or more areas that are slower than expected. Psychologists and counsellors are skilled assisting reducing the delays, particularly in areas impacted by behaviour, slower learning or environmental issues.  Our aim is to improve wellbeing through understanding your child, supporting you and working with your child to develop strategies, feel confident and support their development towards teenagerhood.

For children who experience emotional difficulties play therapy and parent support are helpful ways to alleviate distress and help children and their parents learn strategies for similar situations in the future. Other children experience developmental delay where it is helpful to identify what the specifics of the delay are and provide intervention which targets cognitive, emotional, social and wellbeing needs. Child psychologists have experience in a range of childhood issues and have knowledge about many different approaches to intervention. In addition, child psychologists and counsellors support parents with knowledge and specific ways to support their child. This can be quite informative for helping to understand the specific needs of your child. This may be coaching in different techniques or strategies which helps when raising a difficult, sensitive, or complex child.
