Counsellor and Educator

Kate Campton

Kate is a trauma-informed Counsellor with over 15 years of experience working across education and mental health settings. She specialises in supporting children, adolescents, adults, and families experiencing anxiety, trauma, emotional dysregulation, and neurodevelopmental differences, including autism and ADHD.

Kate is a member of the Australian Counselling Association (ACA) and an Affiliate Member of the Australian Psychological Society (APS). She has extensive experience supporting individuals with intellectual disability, physical disability, complex behavioural presentations, and high emotional vulnerability.

Her clinical work integrates a strong understanding of neurodevelopment, nervous system regulation, attachment, and family systems. Kate has particular expertise in emotional regulation challenges, school distress, behavioural complexity, suicidal ideation, and trauma-related presentations.

Kate is trained in educational, ADHD, and autism assessments, including administration of standardised psychometric tools and the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS-2). She provides comprehensive assessments to support diagnostic clarification, individualised school planning, and access to appropriate supports, including NDIS pathways.

Her therapeutic approach is client-centred, neuro-affirming, and grounded in evidence-informed practice. Kate draws from Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)-informed interventions, and trauma-informed frameworks to support meaningful, sustainable change.

She places strong emphasis on building genuine therapeutic rapport and creating an environment where individuals feel understood, respected, and emotionally validated. Kate works collaboratively with families, schools, paediatricians, psychiatrists, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure consistent and integrated care.

Kate believes that when individuals feel understood and gain insight into their emotional and nervous system responses, meaningful growth and lasting change become possible.
